Travelogue: Lights and Sounds MuseumTuesday, July 16, 2013
"One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn't do."
MORE SURPRISES IN THE PHILIPPINES. I have passed by this museum many times already but never did I take a chance to enter and see what is inside. Looking at the building itself from the outside, it looks uninteresting and boring; it doesn’t even look like a museum! But once we finally entered the place, my whole perspective of this place changed. It is a one of a kind museum with those lights, sound effects and incredible timing of every mechanics running the exhibits inside. It was an hour walk thru of our history in a dark room with sculptures, paintings, representations, and models that surprises us every time a spot light was drawn to them. Aside from that, there was a narrator who tells the story of our ancestors, heroes and history of our beloved Philippines which synchronizes with the sound effects and timing of lights.
The whole narration began during the times of Lapu-Lapu and Magellan. It was shown on the video how the Spaniards introduced to us Catholicism and greedily claims the island of Philippines as their own; they even named our country after their King. Then the story continues to the time wherein the Philippines is already under the Spanish government which the friars and persons in authority persecutes and belittled the Filipinos. As the story continues, we also moved on from room to room where every room has different stories to tell. One room there which I like the most is the room that exhibits the miniature of the walled city and the scenes that happened during that time. Intramuros is a city for the elites wherein only Spaniards, rich Filipino families and high class Indios are the only ones who are allowed to enter. Even the Chinese people aren’t allowed inside, that’s why they build their own community in Binondo. These things I only came to know just right now.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post.. :)
