NEW GUINNESS WORLD RECORD! A total of 56,680 candles were lit in an approximately 20 hectares open field in Savannah City, Oton, Iloilo last April 14, 2014 in celebration of the Light of Peace in the Philippines organized by the MMI. "Lightof Peace in the Philippines" is a yearly event held by the Middle Way Meditation Institute (MMI) in Iloilo and 6 other organizers namely, (1.) The Villar SIPAG (Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance), (2.) The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Jaro, (3.) The Province of Iloilo, (4.) The City of Iloilo, (5.) The Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and (6.) The Department of Education (DepED) to promote "World Peace through Inner Peace" - helping people experience true happiness through meditation. This event bagged a new Guinness World Record for the largest flaming image using candles! It has outshined the 35,478 candles record by Pakistan simultaneously lit last December 10, 2014.

The completed image of 56,680 candles fashioned a Philippine map and Light of Peace logo and motto "World Peace through Inner Peace". The candles were actually put into a torch so it will stand rooted to the ground and avoid it from being misaligned for the crowd may distort the larger image. Reports said, there were actually 100,000 torches prepared for this big event to accommodate 100,000 volunteers but only 56,680 were actually used. It was even raining during the day but that did not stop the Ilonggos to make this event happen.

Last year, MMI also organized the Lights of Peace in the Philippines which also set the world record for most number of sky lanterns simultaneously freed to the sky held in University of the Philippines, Miag-ao Campus last May 24, 2013. Next year where and what would it be? Hopefully, another world record!
